These past few weeks I’ve been working on a new project in my biz and I’ll be honest, it’s been driving me nuts!
On the one hand, I’m really excited about it. On the other hand, I was frustrated because I just couldn’t nail it down the way I wanted.
Then my coach said to me, “Alex, will you PLEASE get out of your own way? You already have everything you need to do this.” She then proceeded to rattle off three different times that she’d seen me do something similar and that this particular project was no different.
Talk about getting SCHOOLED!
It got me to thinking about how many other ways I might be getting in my own way!
If you’ve ever held yourself back because of fear or you’re worried that what you’re doing might not be good enough, you know it can stop you moving forward in your biz – BIG TIME.
Here’s what I learned last week about getting out of my own way:
- Realize that you probably have everything you already need to do what you want. When facing a new or unknown project, there’s often the fear that we don’t know if we have what it takes and this can stop us from moving forward. Pause and take inventory. Look at the skills and talents you already have. If you still don’t see the connection between what you already have and where you want to go next, ask those closest to you to share their perceptions of what you’re good at. Nearly always, other people see a lot more than we can!
- Remember your WHY. Sometimes our fears about what other people will think of us or whether we’re good enough can keep us hidden, playing small – not taking that next new step. But if you go back to your WHY – the BIG reason you’re building your biz in the first place – it can give you strength and resolve to overcome any fears that are holding you back. I guarantee that if your WHY is compelling enough, it will dwarf any fear you have about doing what you want.
- Stop trying to make it perfect. I talked about this last week, but it’s worth mentioning again, because the need to get it all completely perfect can clog up those creative juices and keep you stuck in place. For more tips on how to crack the perfectionist nut, check out last week’s post and start going with “good enough right now.”
Where are you blocking yourself in your biz?
Remember, your ideal clients are out there, they need what you have to offer – your special talents.
So get out of your own way, take those next steps, and start sharing your unique gifts with the world. <3
